In terms of ecological and environmental conditions, the national forest coverage rate will reach 23.04% in 2020, and the area of nature reserves and various types of nature protection areas will account for 18% of the land area. On July 16, the national carbon market officially launched online trading. What is the current operational status? Huang said that since its launch, the national carbon market has operated smoothly, with the trading price rising from 48 yuan per ton on the opening day to 51.76 yuan per ton on August 17. Since the opening of the market one month ago, the cumulative volume of emission allowances in the national carbon market has reached 7.02 million tons, with a cumulative turnover of 355 million yuan.

"Carbon emissions trading is a market means of using market mechanisms to control and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Is an important policy tool to implement our country's carbon peak goal and carbon neutral vision." He pointed out that the construction of the national carbon market is a major institutional innovation, although there are many years of pilot basis, but for the whole society is still a new thing, there are many places to further improve. Therefore, the process must be prudent.

The reporter learned at the meeting that in the next step, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment will further improve the institutional system, promote the introduction of the Interim Regulations on the Management of Carbon Emission Rights Trading as soon as possible, revise and improve the relevant supporting systems and technical specifications system, and improve the voluntary greenhouse gas emission reduction trading mechanism. At the same time, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment will strengthen market management, strengthen the quality management of carbon emission data, strengthen the implementation of relevant systems, strengthen the supervision of all aspects of the national carbon market, and effectively prevent market risks.

At present, in the first compliance cycle, 2,162 enterprises in China's coal-fired power generation industry have been included in the scope of the carbon market, covering a total of 4.5 billion tons of carbon dioxide emissions. "In the next step, on the basis of the good operation of the carbon market in the power generation industry, we will expand the coverage of the carbon market, gradually include more high-emission industries, and gradually enrich the trading varieties, trading methods and trading entities, so as to enhance the activity of the market."
